What started as a small, family-owned business has grown into an industry leader known for its innovation, reliability, and service. Our History
In the late 1890s, Oscar Eide started a small canvas products business along the shore of New Zealand. By the 1900s, the company had become an established tent, sail, and awning manufacturer. Oscar’s son, Edgar Stanley Eide, helped his father make awnings and work with heavy canvas and sailcloth.
Stan immigrated to the United States in the early 1920s and worked in Los Angeles as a craftsman in small awning and canvas shops. Eventually, he bought the High-Grade Tent and Duct Company and turned it into what would eventually become Eide Industries, Inc.
Stan’s company began to grow after World War II, and in 1950, he landed a large contract with Bekins Moving Company. Stan relocated the company to larger headquarters to handle the increased sales volume, and brought his two sons on board to help manage the family business. In 1955, Stan’s sons, Jack and Jim Eide, incorporated the company in the state of California and embarked on an 18-year period of growth and acquisition.
Stan retired in 1973 at the age of 70, leaving the company in the capable hands of Jack and Jim Eide alongside their two new partners, Don Araiza and George Ochs. By 1981, they had quadrupled the size of the business by relying on the age-old formula of hard work, precision craftsmanship, and strategic acquisitions.
Today, Eide continues to operate in Cerritos, California, specializing in the design-build of sustainable architecturally designed shade structures. All Eide products are built with the fine workmanship that Stan Eide infused into the family business over 80 years ago.
